In my experience, there are two types of bellydance videos: those that do the cardio aspect well and those that do the technique aspect well. I have not personally found a video that I felt did both well. I prefer to work with a technique heavy video and get my cardio exercise walking, biking or something like that. That's MY bias, though.

Anytime you are looking to purchase a bellydance video, a great place to check out is Shira's website: www.shira.net. She has many, many reviews of videos of all types, from fitness, technique, & performance geared for dancers from baby beginners to pros.

If your primary concern is the fitness aspect, you may want to consider the Veena & Neena videos. Advantages of these are that they are inexpensive and readily available. I have found them in places like Borders, Barnes & Noble, & Ulta. Again, I don't personally use these (although I own them all and have viewed them) because they don't suit my needs. Here is a link to a review by Shira of two you may like:

http://www.shira.net/videorevws/twins-fitnessbasic.htm
http://www.shira.net/videorevws/twins-fitnessslim.htm

Again, the focus here is on bellydance flavored cardio, not true bellydance technique.

Hope this helps! I LOVE blabbing about bellydance!

Oh, and the general consensus is to stay away from Dolphina's videos. She's widely regarded as awful. You'll also find her videos in the same place you would find Veena & Neena.

There's also a bellydance video out by Kathy Smith that is okay, not awful but not great. It's cheap. If you pick it up, you'll do okay by not watching Kathy but the dancer in the background who she consulted with for the video, Ansuya. Ansuya is awesome. Kathy...ech.

I have two of Dolphina's videos (gifts from DH) and I agree, they're terrible. 90% of the time, you're looking at her face, or a closeup of her arms, or her belly. It doesn't really show you how to dance. Frustrating. All I got was "look how beautiful I am!", which was really annoying.

I especially disliked the videos I have after taking a 12 week class.

That one is better than the introduction to bellydance. I have both, but I'm too uncoordinated for the warrior workout yet.

Andraste- your best bet would be a bellydancing class. I attended one a few years and it was awesome! There were women of all ages and sizes.
I didn't get to attend the last couple of classes. I've been considering signing up again. I really enjoyed myself and you get to work muscles you didn't know existed.

I think someone reccommended the Jillina DVDs some time ago? Perhaps the more advanced ones would be quite challenging? I haven't tried them yet (having only just 'squee' - ed at finding them in an English format ). They get good reviews.
