Default Allergy Shots

I am currently undergoing a series of allergy shots (for enviromental allergies) and finding they totally kick my ass. The rest of the day is just ruined, I am cranky and lethargic. Some could be from the reactin I take after so that my sinuses don't turn into blocks of concrete, but I think it is just my reaction. At this point I don't think I will continue once the vials are used up (have already paid for them).

Have any experience or advice you want to share?

I have never taken them but my grandmother took them at night for all the years I knew her. She actually had one of those glass syringes with a lever that would plunge in the needle! I'm sure they've come a long way since then - this was 35 years ago!

I hope you get it figured out or that they at least help. They seemed to help her a lot she never seemed to have allergies anyway and supposedly she was allergic to everything.

I hope they help too, otherwise its a lot of crankyness for nothing! I have to go to the doctors office to get mine, right now it is twice a week, then supposedly it will go down to once a month and then once a year?

I have purposely kept from getting them. My dad started them and has had to have them for the last 20 years. I take Hydroxyzine since my allergies are so bad.

Yeah, it might not be the case now. But my dad always told me to not start taking them.

My Mom has been taking them for a few years (3?). She is down to once a month, I think. I never realized it would be such a long-term thing for her, I thought, ya know, maybe a year.

They kicked her butt at first, too. It does get better. Honestly, though, unless my allergies really reduced my quality of life, I would never go through the shot cycle. It is a long-term commitment but it DOES Work, my mom hardly (if at all?) reacts to her allergens anymore. She has quite a few and was one of those perpetually miserable people all because of allergies. It has immensely helped her but her case was probably extreme.

One set of vials will likely not have any long-term effects on you. It is sort of a waste of money/time if you will not follow through with the entire regimine. But I am basing everything off my mother's experience.

I think this is what happened to my grandmother. She took them as long as I can remember...

I guess I will have to wait and see how I feel when this set is all gone. Its only enviromental (pollen, trees, grasses, dust, dustmites etc) and living where I do most of the year all that is frozen or buried under snow. I only bothered to agree to get them because we are hoping that the pollen aspect will enable me to eat some of the fruits and veg that I am currently allergic to- like apples and peaches and carrots etc. My reaction to those seems to indicate that it is pollen related, and indeed I have managed to have baked apples and boiled carrots in small amounts without experiencing the reaction (Raw mouth and tongue mostly)

I'm highly allergic to mold. And Ragweed. Which won't die here until the temp reaches about 15F. That damned rabbitbrush is tough!
