Default Homeade acne soap?

Now I have yet to actually make soap from scratch, although when my mother got into her soapmaking phase I thought it was the most insteresting- and irreverently glamorous- thing she'd ever done (until she got into spinning). I was wondering, however, if anyone has made soap before and might be able to help me devise a combination to make an acne soap, since my trial with OCM failed miserably. I think I might like to start out with a traditional basic castille soap and go from there, perhaps adding some tea tree oil or Kaolin clay to the mix after I get the hang of it.

I have heard that tea tree and lavender oils are a good combination for blemish-prone/acne skins.

Hi, I make soap for my daughters acne, I use tea tree, and Rhassoul clay, I use cedarwood and lavender too. If you want a recipe I'll post one for you.

renarok- how amazing! I would be truly thankful if you wouldn't mind posting it- I'm sure eventually I'd get something worth using if I poked around on my own, but even if my skin doesn't like the recipe (highly likely unfortunately) you'd be giving me a great leg up.

You might want to try a pine tar soap.

Here is a recipe that I have made that my daughters like

Acne Soap

6 oz rice bran oil
6 oz hemp seed oil
4 oz palm oil
4 oz castor oil
2 Tblsp rhassoul clay
3 Tblsp ground oatmeal
2 tsp tea tree oil
2 tsp lavender essential oil

5 oz water
2.5 oz sodium hydroxide

before you make any soap.....

please read safety instructions for using lye.

There are loads of sites online that offer good safe techniques.

You can use a couple of clean Pringles containers as molds, and just slice into nice round bars.

This soap has to cure for at least a month, there is no coconut oil, so it isn't the hardest bar. Don't let it sit in a wet soap dish!!!

This will about 8 or more good size bars..... Enjoy

Uh, the thing about Pringles containers as soap molds is that if the plastic layer on the inside is the least bit compromised, then the metal layer (aluminum? I think?) will react with the lye, and you'll wind up with a grey icky sodden mass that you wouldn't want to use as soap. So, yes, you can use them, but make sure the inside is perfectly intact first.

If you're going to make your own soap, read up on it thoroughly before hand. Start with the Miller soap site.

I've used washed Pringles cans many many times with very good results. Tennis ball containers also work very well.
