Default cleaning mud off of suede

I have a pair of suede Birkenstock clogs that, because they're about 3 1/2 years old, are losing some of the traction and, in some cases, sole itself, on the bottom. Consequently, it is a very bad idea to wear them in mud, as they will slip. I learned this the hard way the other day walking down a muddy hill, and now have mud all over the suede bit of one of them, and was wondering how to get it off. Suggestions?
TIA

I am not sure, but at a guess, I would let it dry on there, then when competely dry, use one of those rubber suede brushes (or a rubber horse grooming brush) to brush the dried mud off.
Hopefully someone in the know will come along and answer, because I am only guessing

I'd let it dry and then flake off as much as possible, then remove the remainder with a damp cloth. To restore the nap to the suede, take another piece of suede and rub your damp shoes with it. That will keep the nap from laying down and feeling hard rather than soft.

Yeah, I've already let it dry off, as it's been a couple days. I used to have one of those brushes, my mum got it for me when I got the shoes, but then when I left for uni I realised I hadn't used it once in the three years in which I'd owned the shoes, so left it at home. I could use it now. I'll use a damp cloth instead I suppose.

Thanks Nightshade for the tip for restoring the texture and making it soft and fuzzy xD

I was going to say exactly as the others said. After drying, clean by using a suede brush. I would try to brush out as much of it as you can before trying the damp cloth. I did this to my suede pillow and nearly ruined it. Then on the other side, I brushed it vigorously before adding the damp cloth and it came out much nicer.
