![]() I do an extra-heavy oiling (1 tablespoon) the night before washing it. But on an everyday basis I put on no more than 1/16 teaspoon total. It's just a few drops, really. Tonight I put in about 1 teaspoon coconut oil, which I'd consider semi-heavy. It does feel a bit greasy, but doesn't look greasy. My curls are more defined and actually shiny. Maybe a bit more oil on a daily basis would be a good thing. Thoughts?

![]() My daughter has curly hair and one thing I have noticed, what works for her does not always work for me. My hair is fine and wavy and goes limp and greasy from oil, so I only oil at night before bed. My daughter's hair always looks gorgeous if she puts a spritz of coconut oil mixed with tap water in damp hair then leaves it to dry without combing. Mine just looks dirty and unwashed.
So my answer is yes, if you have courser or curlier hair I reckon that extra moisture from oiling can really do wonders for curls

![]() I guess it's a matter of figuring how much oil I can get away with. I think I could stand to mix some more oil with my gel.

![]() like Allychan my hair is fine, so until recently I have avoided oiling entirely, since I could never seem to get it right!
What works for me is oiling after my hair accidentally gets damp in the shower, or oiling after brushing and before bed, but only a fingernail-full and only on the ends/underlayer (I have coarser, curlier nape hair that I am trying to get to grow). If I do use a lot of oil, I have to brush my hair flat and braid it, otherwise it looks bad. And I find heavy oilings don't bring me much results because I have to wash them out with lots of shampoo. Regular (every day or two) small amounts of coconut oil are making my ends a lot smoother, shinier, and less full of splits! |
