this is my first time using indigo. i can't wait to have black hair! i'm just scared that it won't release

If you get a green tinge, I'd recommend using henna first (leave it on for half hour, so the red is not too intense) as this will counteract the green. I do the two step henndigo to get a rich dark brown with red highlights

Umm, my understanding is indigo is always used in conjuction with henna or in a two step process, henna first then indigo. Indigo IS green, henna and indigo together make shades of brown to black. And the henna is needed for the indigo to stick, it washes out by itself. Did you research this? I apologize for sounding bossy but I have used henna and indigo for years and never heard of using indigo alone. Check out www.hennaforhair.com for more information. Good luck!

Hi ladies, don't worry, I did a two-step process! I did henna (hot water, lemon, ginger powder) for about an hour and a half then rinsed it out, let dry, and did indigo, for an hour and a half. No green for me!!!!!!! lol.

It turned out almost completely black, still some redbrown undertones.... in a few months i'll do a whole head application and probably get a truer black.

kdaniels- don't worry, i've been wanting to do henndigo for nearly a whole year now, so I've done my research. I did check out hennaforhair.com, and Mehandi is where I got my Black kit. I did henna twice already this year (spring and summer) so this was my third henna and my first indigo.

I've had great luck. It's not bleeding at all and I'm not seeing any green. There was a very very slight green sheen an hour or two after rinsing but that faded quickly.

Yay for no green!!! I look like a witch if I go the full black, that's why I stay with the dark browns. You have a softer looking face so I am sure it suits you well. Any chance of pictures?!!

Allychan- yeah i'm really glad there's no green. I dyed Friday afternoon/evening, and by now it's still not a full, raven-y black--- you can still see red in the sunlight. I really do love it, but when it's time to do roots i'll be doing another whole-head app. to get the true black. People have told me it looks natural because my brows are dark. Other people have told me i look like betty boop :P i'm so happy! And I will definitely post photos here are some pictures:

post-henna, pre-indigo:

2 days post-indigo:

I'm so happy with the way it turned out. but i'm so scared to shampoo! i started to shampoo this morning and it leaked blue stuff. I don't think it effected the stain but i'm still worried. I dyed on friday night. And when I used conditioner (cone-free, VO5), it didn't leak anything at all. Also- the shampoo is sulfate-free. does anyone have some advice for me?

Yeah I'd avoid shampoo for atleast the first five days.

I love the colour in the last two photos. And I agree, very Betty Boop with the red lippy. I like the colour henna and/or indigo give, it is multi-tones not just one harsh colour that ends up looking fake. I have heaps of gray hairs coming through so they turn into 'natural highlights' when I henndigo.
