I saw that yesterday while checking Esty out. Good for them!

I did get an e-mail from eBay yesterday with items for sale from my
favorite sellers and climbingbear_auctions (baerreis), woodbyc, &
treasuresfromthetree (ketylo) all have either new items listed or
have re-listed items during the strike. Even monkthemonk has items
listed.

I was a little disapointed by that.

Wow, that is a bit disappointing. I can only imagine that they were unaware of the strike. I hope more sellers start migrating toward Etsy. Oh, wait, I am addicted to that place as it is... I don't know if I can handle much more.

I've got some shoes listed on ebay, but did so before I heard about the strike. I don't sell my handcrafted stuff there, but I do sell odds and ends from time to time. I don't know where I'll unload my stuff now. Craigslist is an option, but it is a major PITA.

I wished I had seen this earlier. I buy often on ebay, but until this last week had not put anything up for sale. One part is funny I have a self imposed moritorium not to purchase anything from 2/15 to 4/15 - giving my checkbook a rest. I had heard some grumbling about fee changes.

The feedback is a double edged sword. I had a very bad purchasing experience with one person holding an item for 28 days before shipping. It was an $800 buy it now purchase. When he did respond to my emails it was not polite. I left neutral feedback (which should have been negative) with remarks that the shipping time was x. His response was "Menopause must really suck. " (among other negative remarks) I was banned from bidding on an item because of his remarks which at that point were a year old! That person is no longer a seller under that screen name - but the feed back lives on. (And yes I did report him - for all the good that did me - with copies of his comments and emails - nothing was done!)

It really sucks having auctions ending on the first day of an ebay strike I'd probably be getting more bids on my Danskos if not for the strike

I hadn't heard about the eBay strike until I saw this thread. I decided to look up the new policy so I could be better informed. I found the information here:

http://pages.ebay.com/services/forum/new.html

I have to say that I just don't see this as being a negative thing. From my experience on eBay and other sites I actually see the feedback policy changes as a very good thing.

I have given a lot of business to a few very good sellers. But my feedback to them only counts for one transaction as does their feedback to me. Now I can help build the reputation of a trusted seller when I leave additional feedback.

I've also been troubled by sellers who withhold feedback until I leave feedback for them. I've even had to ask for their feedback after several weeks even though I also pay within moments of the auction ending. I've completed my transaction and have been a good customer. It feels to me like blackmail or a threat held over my head should I find that their service is unsatisfactory and as a consequence decide to leave feedback that is a true reflection of my experience.

I think sellers who abuse the rating system are a huge problem and I tend to be wary about buying from most smaller sellers because of this. Basically I don't know how much I can trust the feedback at all.

Also, this change affects all sellers equally. So if neutral feedback goes up a bit, it is only a reflection of what the buyers really feel. Some of my experiences have been neutral. Not very good at all but not bad enough to leave a strongly negative. Yet I am loath to leave a neutral because as I look through the sellers feedback left for others I find retaliation in their ratings.

Also eBay is making a provision to remove the negative feedback left by someone who is no longer an eBay member in good standing. This should weed out the unjustly bad feedback some buyers/seller have received.

It just seems very good and well thought out to me. I wonder if everyone who is so upset about the changes has truly taken the time to read or if they are responding to another person's negative reaction without checking the facts?

Thank goddess for Etsy. I sell a bit of stuff on Ebay now and again, though I haven't in months. Selling anything handmade there is pretty much a joke unless you're a big name like Graydog. Without notority you just get buried under the 50,000 1cent $80 to ship listings from China.

It'd be interesting if there was more traffic over at Etsy, but by the same token I hope this doesn't cause an influx of sellers of junk that the Etsy team has to sift out. I mean, enough people use the Vintage catagory as a rummage sale as it is. Sorry, your jelly shoes from the '80s are NOT vintage. Neither is the NWT Hollister skirt that *looks* vintage. Asshats.

I do think the elimination of buyer feedback is stupid, as there are times I haven't bought from a seller because of their feedback. On it wasn't even bad feedback, but just a lot of peope saying that the item was sold in the physical store and that they had to choose a different item. There were a lot of cases like that, and I decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

As a seller on Etsy, I leave feedback without waiting to hear if the sticks got there or not. They paid, I have the cash, and if it's retracted I'll take it up with PayPal. Etsy seems to be a less fradulant community anyway, so I feel fine doing that. I don't always get to it right away, but I tend to do it in batches when I have time.
