Default Make Your Own Polish

Yes me again the girl of 1001 questions. Once again i fall prey to google image search and am head over heels for flake polish. Unfortunatly i missed the wagon on the trend and most of the limited editions have run out. The ones i can find now i dont like enough to spend that much on since they are the pricer brands.

So im wondering do you think i can mix up my on with a clear/sheer base and something like this - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Iridescent-Pearl-Flake-Leaf-Glitter-for-Nail-Art-Decoration-/321000203151?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4abd1a 638f - ?

And so this one isnt totally about me what other kinds of home blends have you mixed up? Please share your results! Ive heard of mixing in eyeshadow and such. Tried it once many years ago with a cheapy claires shimmer......didnt work needed purer shimmer not so much filler it sank and clumped no matter hat i did.

I've always, always wanted to make my own nail polish. The issue I run into is finding a decent base- I can't get hold of real suspension base here in the UK, so I have to settle for mixing glitter and pigments into thicker clear polishes. Inevitably, they sink to the bottom, leaving me shake-shake-shaking for hours. Sigh! However, if you can get hold of suspension base (I know TKB sell it in the states!) you won't have that issue, and sinking or not, making your own polishes is super fun. I'd say go for it!
However! Those flakies, which I assume are mylar, will most likely loose their colour in polish, because they're not solvent safe =/ The only flakies I know that keep their colour in polish are automotive flakes, like for painting cars.
This site http://polishandpigments.blogspot.co.uk/ has excellent, really indepth informative articles on the whole process!

Ohh never heard of that base thank you for passing that along! I figured id just have to get some metal balls and shake the crap out of it. but then i get annoyed waiting for the buubles to go away.

Thanks for the solvent tip i did see some that stated solvent resistant. The beauty suppy didnt have any when i went today so online is my only option. The car paint sounds rockin but i bet illegal for your averge consumer hahaha but great info none the less.

I caved today when the color club snow flakes holiday edition. It was on sale and i had my 20% off coupon and i couldnt help it. I would have prfered a flakey ont he purple/blue/green spectrum but its fun to have anway. My first color club polish too!

I've only tried once. A few years ago I tried to make a black glitter, before they started coming out with black glitter polishes. Anyway, I used a clear Revlon polish and added the glitter but it all just sank to the bottom. Didn't work well at all. Thankfully black glitter is getting easier to find.
