Default Silk nail wraps?

So I've been growing my nails long lately and just treated myself to a good nail file and some nail art stuff (polishes and foils and stuff!) and I'm excited to decorate my nails and make them pretty.

But I'm worried about the natural nail weakening and breaking. Normally my nails will get pretty long before they break but when they do they break off really short! Wahh!

Are silk wraps any good? Should I do them myself, get them done professionally or just get some of the paint on silk wraps like Avon makes? I just want my nails to be pretty and long, I get sad when they break This is one of the few things I actually do for my appearance any more (I've never got the energy for make-up) so I'd like to make my nails look super awesome.

Advice! Or if you can suggest an alternative to silk wraps please do. Note there is no way in hell I'm getting acrylics, I've read too many horror stories and I'd rather promote strength in my natural nails!

Pegs, from what I understand silk wraps are almost like acrylics, not good for your natural nail. I have never had them though, so I don't know for sure.

I did want to put in a plug for T.I.P.S! http://www.askcosmetics.com/tips.htm

This stuff is awesome. I had the longest, hardest, strongest nails ever when I used this stuff

In my opinion, you need 3 things to have the greatest nails of your life. A buffer (I like the cube ones), a glass nail file, and T.I.P.S.

ETA: You can get this stuff from QVC too.

Ooh, thanks Manderly! At the moment I'm using a conditioning thing from Avon that's got diamond dust or something in it... it seems to help but I don't think it will work through nail polish, haha.

i'm just sick of always having 9 long nails and one short one. It seems as soon as one grows back another breaks! ugh!

I have the same problem. Haven't fixed it yet, so I'm not a while lot of help, lol.

Keeping my hands super moisturized helps a lot. I've been using Sally Hansen's hand, nails, and cuticle cream in between polishes (It really does strengthen the nails!) and taking extra biotin, and it helps.

Gotta say that I wish I had known about glass/crystal nail files a lot sooner.

I've never gotten a manicure or been to a nail salon or anything, so I didn't even know these things existed.

I went to the OPI GO thread and saw the words crystal file and said 'what the heck is that?' =p

In any case, I've got one now, and I'm already in love with it. I think it may become like my horn combs (one for the house, one in my purse, and then ended up buying one for my bf's mom =p)

I know im guilty of ghosting threads quite often but im going to do it again. What can i say im bored . I am a fan of using orly nail armor liquid silk wrap as my base coat. Keeps my nails very strong while its on. I try to re-do it every 4 days.
